Home physiotherapy in University of Glasgow & Gilmorehill, Glasgow
The Gilmorehill campus and surrounding streets — we see staff recovering from sports injuries, post-op students, and senior residents in the terraces beyond the campus.
What a home visit in University of Glasgow & Gilmorehill typically looks like.
Gilmorehill is the hill the University of Glasgow has stood on since 1870, rising above Kelvingrove Park with University Avenue, Kelvin Way and Byres Road around it. The streets nearby are home to students, university staff and long-standing residents, and evening and weekend appointments fit around lectures, labs and working days.
Homes in University of Glasgow & Gilmorehill
Around the campus, homes range from tenement flats near Gibson Street and Byres Road, many shared by students, to student residences and older terraces. Shared flats bring their own challenges after an injury: a top-floor room, a shared bathroom down the hall, or barely enough floor space to exercise. We adapt the plan to the space you have, using a chair, a doorway or a step, and practise the stair when crutches or a knee brace make it awkward.
Getting out and about
Hillhead subway station on Byres Road is the closest to the main campus, with Kelvinhall near the foot of Byres Road. University Avenue rises from Byres Road, and the paths from the main building down into Kelvingrove Park are steeper still, which makes Gilmorehill a natural testing ground once you're back on your feet. Kelvin Way, the tree-lined road through the park, and the riverside paths give flatter options earlier on.
Working alongside your GP and NHS team
The Western Infirmary, which stood next to the campus, closed in 2015, and its site is now part of the university's campus development, home to the James McCune Smith Learning Hub. The nearest hospital is now Gartnavel General Hospital on Great Western Road, with the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Govan for emergency care and major surgery. Students and staff can book directly without a GP letter.
